What is MailBluster? How it works?

Last update: November 9, 2023

MailBluster is an email marketing platform that uses Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) for sending high-quality marketing emails and newsletters. By using your own AWS account, MailBluster aims to provide cost-effective email marketing without compromising deliverability.

What is GDPR and how does MailBluster follow GDPR rules?

Last update: November 9, 2023

The GDPR, or General Data Protection Regulation, is a law about protecting data. It started in the European Union on May 25, 2018. This law tells us how we can use, handle, and keep personal information (like details about someone who can be identified and is alive). It’s not just for EU groups but also for those offering stuff or services to the EU or keeping an eye on EU citizens.

Your data is safe with MailBluster, and we follow the rules of GDPR. We store your info in Ireland, part of the European Economic Area, using secure servers from Amazon Web Services (AWS). We’re serious about keeping everything confidential, following strict rules in our Data Privacy Regulations.

Can I trust MailBluster with my billing card information?

Last update: November 9, 2023

Your billing card details are safe with MailBluster! We don’t keep them; they’re encrypted and stored securely by Stripe, the payment authority we use. This means our development, marketing, and technical support teams can’t access your credit card info. Over 16,000 users have added cards, and MailBluster is fully GDPR compliant, so no need to stress about it!

Can I use my MailBluster Account when my AWS Account is in sandbox?

Last update: November 9, 2023

You won’t be able to send any bulk emails from MailBluster while you are in sandbox mode. Also, in Sandbox mode, those 200 emails you see are for the virtual mailbox simulator, not for sending actual emails to your leads (recipients). So in conclusion, you won’t be able to send any emails from MailBluster until and unless you move your AWS account out of Amazon SES Sandbox. However, you will still be able to explore your MailBluster Account and its features..

MailBluster is still giving a message to move out of sandbox

Last update: November 7, 2023

You can refresh the Amazon SES usage box as shown below:

But if it wasn’t updated, then most of the time, the reason is that Amazon SES moved you out of the sandbox in a different region (not the one that you have selected). The confirmation email should contain the Region; please choose the same region on MailBluster.

If the issue still persists, then generate the AWS Credentials again correctly by following this video tutorial:

Does MailBluster have email tracking?

Last update: November 21, 2023

Although MailBluster does not generate email tracking by itself, it uses Amazon SES along with Amazon SNS to track all email events.

MailBluster does provide detailed analytics like the number of open rates, click rates, and total email sent, and delivered.

After sending your first campaign through MailBluster, you will find a generated report from your Brand > Reports > View selected Campaign section as shown below:

Does MailBluster have domain tracking?

Last update: November 21, 2023

MailBluster doesn’t have any domain tracking mechanism. Because of this, the MailBluster Report does not separately list the number of emails sent, delivered, opened, clicked, marked as spam, etc. for Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo or AOL.

What is double-opt in?

Last update: November 8, 2023

Double opt-in is a process where, after you subscribe for an email or newsletter, you receive an email asking you to confirm that you really want to join. It’s more like a “Are you sure?” step to make sure you’re not accidentally added or signed up by someone else. You need to click a link or take an action in that confirmation email to complete the sign-up process. This helps prevent spam and ensures that people on the list actually want to be there.

What does this mean when a Lead’s Subscription status is ‘Unsubscribed” but the Double Opt-In status is ‘Confirmed’?

Last update: November 8, 2023

When a lead’s Subscription status is ‘Unsubscribed” but their Double Opt-In status is ‘Confirmed’, that means that the lead initially subscribed and confirmed their email address but later chose to unsubscribe from your emails.

Is there a way to track the number of clicks by a specific link in an email campaign?

Last update: November 15, 2023

MailBluster doesn’t provide a report detailing the number of clicks a specific link received. You can only view the total number of clicked links, not the individual count of clicks for each link.

Sending cold emails using MailBluster

Last update: November 9, 2023

Sending cold emails through MailBluster is against the terms of use of MailBluster. You cannot send unsolicited emails to a receiver without prior contact. That is, you are not allowed to send emails to those who are not your subscribers. This is according to the guidelines of AWS. You must have prior contact first and your leads has to be your subscribers. If you send cold emails, then AWS will pause / suspend your AWS account. It might also result in blocking your MailBluster and AWS account forever.

Email automation feature/Does MailBluster do automation emails?

Last update: October 19, 2023

MailBluster has basic automation. Using the automation feature, you can send a sequence of emails to your recipients when a visitor subscribes to your brand.

Currently there are only 2 triggers (options) available right now.

  • The first trigger will let manually subscribed leads (email IDs stored in Leads section) receive automation emails which is always enabled by default.
  • The second trigger will apply to imported leads through CSV File if they are set to subscribe (this can be enabled or disabled).

Automation in MailBluster is a paid feature, and hence, MailBluster does not brand itself on these emails. There is no way to send automated campaigns without any cost.

This is how Automation works in MailBluster:
When a lead subscribes to your brand, a subscription event occurs. At that time, the system checks if you have any activated workflow that should get triggered by the subscription event. If an activated workflow is there, the lead will start its journey by following the workflow steps. When the lead subscribed, if no workflow is activated, the event won’t trigger any workflow. So, the workflow should be active before the lead subscription happens.

If you change the workflow in Automation, the behavior might vary for each lead because all leads won’t start the workflow at the same time and different leads will be in different steps based on when they started the workflow. If a lead hasn’t passed the newly added step, it will be eligible for the step. And the leads who already completed the workflow will not be eligible for the new steps.

The campaign management and campaign reports can be found inside the workflow of Automation.
